Closed Loop Weekly 〰 Make space for lumps

October 16th, 2020

Hi kids,No links this week.

Instead, thinking intently about the work that goes unseen. We live in a constant flood of content on a day to day basis. An opportunity for distraction available every moment. There is never a lack of things to look at. And no, I’m not complaining about the number of chef thirst traps on TikTok, bless that content, I’m taking a moment to appreciate the work we don’t share with the world. As someone who’s always pushed to make commercial work out of a desire to survive and unconsciously for external validation, making shit I can be affirmed for has driven much of my work.

I’m shifting away from this mentality. It is an uncomfortable move away from the norm. You may or may not have noticed the quiet coming from all sides on Closed Loop Cooking. It’s not because of a lack of ideas, rather, I can’t bring myself to invest any more time in content that feels so fleeting. Made specifically for a 9x9 grid that affirms its own value through a chosen platform?

I’m taking time to rethink what content creation means at CLC. I strive for deep, meaningful ideas that challenge us to do better. For our environment and ourselves. And personally, I’m not finding the connection at the moment. I’m going to do the work to figure out what that means. It’s the unpolished, lumpy, half-baked process that is not IG worthy, nor anything I care to share. But you can’t make vinegar without some rotten fruit.

I’ll most likely continue the newsletter in the meantime but it might be a bit before we get back into full content creation. Stick around if you’re up for the journey. I appreciate y’alls patience, brilliance, and support. And I encourage everyone to honor that lumpy time. Make room for it, work those lumps. It’s the most important part.

What’s the why of your work?

Stay hungry,Hawnuh Lee | Founder, Closed Loop Cooking
