Closed Loop Weekly 🌾 Harvests for humanity
July 24th, 2020
Hi fam,
Portlanders have been out in the street going on 50+ days, I’m so proud of y’all! Riot Ribs has been feeding anyone and everyone, despite a constant threat of raids. Consider donating funds or items from their urgently needed list if you’re looking for ways to help the cause. We show up in the best ways we can, every small step makes a difference.
I’m also so excited to share our new Farmer Feature series! We’re traveling (virtually) around the country to hear how small scale farmers are having a massive impact on big AG. (That’s agriculture for ya.) Maia kicked the series off with One Love Garden, a sustainably minded operation out of Maple City, Michigan. Shannon and Andy are doing incredible work furthering food sovereignty and bringing local produce to the people. I’m reminded of the power in collectivism when the food you grow directly influences the folx in your community. I learned so much from this interview, I’m dubbing it required reading this week.
I’d also like to ask y’all to forward this interview to a friend. The more folx we can inform, the better our chances of changing the status quo. Appreciate y’all. <3

Love Letters for Black FolksThis plant-based project is a collab between Salimatu Amabebe, Annika Hansteen-Izora, two Black queer artists of Black Feast. They’re sending free sweet treats, love letters, and care packages to Black folx in Portland. You can sign up to share or receive the love from June 23 - Aug 26. (They’re also looking for volunteer delivery drivers and non-perishable products.)
