Closed Loop Weekly 🔥 Hot ferments

July 31st, 2020

Hi fam,There is nothing like the pungent aroma of freshly made sauerkraut gently wafting through the entire house because it’s 93° outside and you thought a hot ferment would be a great idea. I mean it is… in theory… but that smell lingers in unassuming corners, attacking when you least expect it. Nothing to do but air out the kitchen and load up on probiotics.

I’m leaning into it. This imperfection in a series of Groundhog Days with no end in sight. I’m accepting the things I can not change and attempting to make the most of my time creating work + food I’m excited about. It’s not perfect but I’m learning to forgive myself more, to be patient in moments of fuck-up-ery and let it go. I’m putting time and energy into areas I have control, like anti-racist reading and spreading the word for Teressa Raiford’s write-in campaign in Portland, OR November 3rd.

I’m working towards a sustainable livelihood, creating resources and narratives to empower others to find their voice. There’s bound to be some funky kraut along the way. I hope we can all appreciate those moments as we go.

Sending cabbage + chutzpah.

Their bake a loaf, and pass it on project is giving rise to a common dough. You can sign up by sending an email to [email protected]. Read the full post for all the details. Can’t wait to share this sourdough!

The neighborhood fridges effort in L.A.I am in awe of this fantastic L.A. project bringing food to folx in need throughout the city. These free food fridges are cold, clean, and totally anonymous. From L.A. Community Fridges organizer Julia Lebow, “Food scarcity is a myth, and our communities deserve to be fed.” Excited to keep following this effort @midcityfridge, maybe it will make its way to PDX?
